Green Actions for the Future
What is it?
An innovative six-weeks competition to engage Indonesian and American high school students to work together to design, implement, and assess the impact of specific measures to improve the environment.
When is it?
- The competition will start on November 15, 2022
- Register by November 5, 2022
How to join?
- Form a group of 3 high school students from the DMV area to be partnered with 3 high school students from Indonesia to form a team of 6.
- Register your group of 3 here. We will pair you up with an Indonesian group to form a team.
Benefits
- All participants will be invited to a tour of the Indonesian Embassy in Washington DC and will receive a comic book featuring the Indonesian environmental superhero, Luh Ayu Manik Mas.
- Winning entries will be posted on the social media platforms of Indonesian Embassy in Washington DC and BASAbali for International Exposure. Winners will also receive cash prizes!
- 15 community service credits available for students in the DMV area.
What will you do?
Introductory webinar to help identify environmental projects to tackle and to create teams of 3 Americans and 3 Indonesians per team. Mentors will be assigned to each team.
Example projects:
- Commitment from x families to reduce energy consumption.
- Convince a local store to stop using plastic packaging.
- Write a joint letter to a local newspaper about the interconnectedness of water pollution and the impact on individual towns in the US and Indonesia.
Teams meet on their own and with mentor to design, implement, and measure the impact of projects.
Teams document with a 2-3 minute video or video of a photo collage.
Entries are judged and commented on by the public and by an international panel of experts. All US participants will be invited to a tour of the Indonesian Embassy as part of the awards ceremony and will receive a comic book featuring Indonesian superhero, Luh Ayu Manik Mas. Winning teams will receive cash prizes and their winning video will be posted on the Embassy and BASAbali’s social media platform.
